Bohol Island, one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines known for its world-class diving and natural spots, is reopening to welcome leisure tourists, including those from GCQ (general community quarantine) areas such as Metro Manila, starting December 15, 2020.
This is good news to all domestic travelers, including me, who have been waiting for Bohol to reopen after it was closed for several months due to lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Local tourists can now add Bohol Island in their places to visit -- whether for business, leisure or vacation -- after Boracay, Baguio City and other local destinations reopened their doors to general tourists a few months ago.
Last December 7-10, I was fortunate to be invited to travel and experience Bohol in the "new normal". The trip which was organized by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the marketing arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), was my first travel outside of Luzon since the community quarantine last March. We got to personally see and experience the efforts that Bohol is making to fight COVID-19 while getting the island ready to welcome tourists.
My recent trip to Bohol gave me a first-hand experience of traveling in the "new normal". As a travel blogger who has traveled extensively around the Philippines before the pandemic, I can say that the pre-pandemic way of traveling has tremendously changed. Aside from observing strict health and safety protocols, tourists will now have to adapt to the changes and adjust their expectations when traveling in the new normal -- from complicated travel requirements to a more restrictive travel experience.
Due to the ever evolving COVID-19 situation, travel requirements and guidelines also constantly change which sometimes result to confusion to travelers, which is why I created this travel guide in an FAQ format to help you plan your trip to Bohol Island in the new normal. I'll continue to update this post as soon as I receive new information.

On the other hand, there will be five designated diving areas around the island and each will have a limit of 60 tourists per day. Contact your preferred DOT-accredited travel agency/tour operator or dive shop to arrange for these activities.

Is it a good time to visit Bohol?
Since Bohol has just opened to general tourists, expect that the airfares and room rates are lower (some hotels/resorts are offering up to 50% off to attract tourists) and most hotels and tourist spots are less crowded, even around the holiday season. As the travel requirements and restrictions are getting eased, more and more tourists will become interested to visit Bohol. But until that happens, now is the time to enjoy cheaper rates and less crowded Bohol.
